Theater Venues in Boston
Emerson Colonial Theater
106 Boylston St, Boston, MA 2116
Emerson Colonial Theater is part of the Citi Performing Arts Center complex.
The oldest continually operating theatre in Boston, The Emerson Colonial first opened in 1900 with a spectacular production of Ben Hur, which required a cast and crew of 350 people. Due to its size, it continues to this day to host big scale touring shows which struggle to find venues large enough in other cities.
Wang Theater
Citi Performing Arts Center, 270 Tremont St, Boston, MA 2116
Wang Theater is part of the Citi Performing Arts Center complex.
Originally called The Met, Boston's premier performing arts venue started life as a glittering movie "cathedral", dripping in chandeliers and marble. Its splendor faded somewhat in the 1960s and 70s, but an ambitious restoration, funded in large part by the Wang family, brought it back to its former glories. It now plays host to dozens of Broadway shows, operas, and concerts every year.
Shubert Theatre
Boch Center, 270 Tremont St, Boston, MA 2116
Shubert Theatre is part of the Citi Performing Arts Center complex.
Originally a stage for Shakespeare's plays, the restored Shubert Theatre with a seating capacity of 1500+, is considered to be Boston Theater District's "Little Princess". It is located within the Citi Performing Arts Center, and the Shubert now hosts Broadway shows, theater, opera, music and dance events. The venue is home to many local community arts organizations, with a diverse range of arts and entertainment programs available to all age groups.
