Dalai Lama

Why see Dalai Lama?

North American Events

His Holiness The Dalai Lama will be giving a series of talks in North America and Canada this year. A source of near infinite wisdom and compassion, His Holiness is always a lively and relatable speaker.

The current Dalai Lama (birthname Lhamo Dondrub) was born in 1935 in the small Tibetan village of Takster. When he was two years old, he was chosen as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama. His reign has been a turbulent one, a period of some 75 years in which Tibet has been thoroughly subsumed into The People's Republic of China. Fearing for his life, The Dalai Lama fled the country in 1959, crossing the border into India, where he then founded the Central Tibetan Administration.

In the years since, The Dalai Lama has been a tireless campaigner for the rights of the Tibetan people and a teacher of Buddhist philosophy, winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. In 2011 he retired from all political activities, which he handed over the the Central Tibetan Administration, but has continued to tour the world taking part in lectures and interviews.
