The Band's Visit

The Band's Visit at Huntington Avenue Theatre

Why see The Band's Visit?

Welcome to nowhere

WINNER OF THE 2019 GRAMMY AWARDS FOR BEST MUSICAL THEATER ALBUM!

The winner of ten (ten!) 2018 Tony Awards, David Yazbeck, and Itamar Moses's stunning musical is staged by the Huntington Avenue Theatre this winter. Following on from its spellbinding, record-breaking run on the Great White Way, discover the story of an Egyptian police band stranded in the desert after a literary mix-up, it's warm, poignant, and utterly captivating.

What is the story?

Stuck waiting for the next bus and with no hotels in town, it falls on the friendly and curious locals to take in the musicians, where each side discovers more about themselves and their shared humanity.

Adapted from the award-winning 2007 film, Tony-winner Yazbeck has crafted a new original score capturing life, loss and the enchantment of the desert, alongside Moses' touching and heart-warming book. A Critic's pick in the New York Times, prepare to be moved by a show the paper called, 'One of the most ravishing musicals you will ever be seduced by.'

A simple spelling mistake at the Egypt/Israel border sees the Alexandria Police Band redirected to the wrong town, where there is no public transport, nor hotels. Taken in by the charitable restaurant owner as they discuss their predicament, the band are invited to stay at his various relatives' homes overnight. Love is in the air for one member of the band, which culminates in an enchanting evening at the local ice-skating rink. The others realise that their lives are changed forever after this change in circumstance.

Amazing

I was pulled into the lives and loves of the various small town characters. I felt the lonesomeness and pain and saw the struggle as each just tries to find some happiness in their existence. And the band can play. ... Read more

Brilliant

This is not your everyday traditional "mainstream" musical (e.g. cats, phantom, Les mis) and will likely not have the same mass people. BUT... This is a work of art where silence on stage is golden and there is nuance with each move. The music is beautiful and the acting phenomenal. A must see for lovers of all things broadway. My only critic is the the Mirvish theatre where, once again, I felt the sound was muffled. Wish they would deal with this given the ticket prices ... Read more
