A contemporary take on Shakespeare's classic
Boston Ballet presents a refreshing take on Shakespeare's classic story of star-crossed lovers by Jean-Cristophe Maillot, reinterpreting the story from the regretful perspective of Friar Lawrence. With graceful contemporary dance weaved in to Prokofiev's full score, this stunning adaptation of the timeless story was first premiered in 1996, and is a thrilling piece of ballet to witness.
What is the story?
Whilst Romeo Capulet and Juliet Montague are concerned with love at first sight, their rival clans will stop at nothing to destroy the other. When it becomes clear the match will not be tolerated, the pair hatches a scheme to escape the embittered streets of Verona; only the outcome depends on some dangerous trickery that might just see their fates entwined forever, and not in the marriage bed as previously planned.
