Waitress

Waitress at The Loeb Drama Center At American Repertory Theatre

Why see Waitress?

Slice of Life

Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) leads the cast of this world premiere musical, a big-hearted tale of a small town waitress with some grand ambitions. Based on the acclaimed 2007 movie with Keri Russel, Waitress boasts a book by Hollywood screenwriter and director Jessie Nelson (Hope Springs) and an original score from pop songstress Sara Bareilles.

This show is directed by ART's Artistic Director Diane Paulus. A highly respected name in the world of musical theatre, she won a Tony in 2013 for her revival of Pippin and most recently oversaw the Harvey Weinstein-produced Finding Neverland at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway.

What is Waitress About?

Waitress Jenna (Mueller) longs for escape from the small southern town where she lives with her bullying husband Earl. Hope is at hand in the form of a pie-making contest in a nearby town, with a possibly life-changing cash prize. At the diner where she works, Jenna is famed for her fluffy pastries and crinkly crusts, and knows that this contest may be the one chance she gets to turn her life around.

Yes found good restaurant nearby ... Read more

Can't Wait To See This Again!

This Tony nominated musical (up against Hamilton) showcases what Sara Bareilles does best - fantastic sing along melodies and lyrics that tell a story with poetry, humor, melancholy, and love. I was fortunate enough to see this with Sara B. in the role of Jenna but she wrote incredible songs for each cast member. Every song got a standing ovation during the show, which made the show run three hours, but it was one of the highlights of theatre for me and my son (right up there with seeing the original Broadway cast of Into The Woods with Sondheim and Lapine in conversation and Hamilton) Can't wait to see this again! ...
