Wonderful December 24th at The Pops!

Yesterday four of my family attended the Christmas Eve Pops at 3PM. We sat in the second to the last row in the second balcony and loved our seats and view. The program was both moving and light hearted. It was all about community, inclusiveness and acknowledging losses. The Flander’s Field piece brought tears to our eyes and giving nods to our seat mates brought masked smiling eyes. The staff was kind and helpful. The program book was a little hard to read on our phones and we never found last nights program but it didn’t matter. The 12 Days of Christmas was creative and imaginative and we would like to have seen the printed words. Thank you to The BSO and Merry Christmas.

The performance I attended had a fabulous version of the 12 Days of Christmas. It was so beautifully orchestrated! I even seared online to find it! Thank you Boston Pops it put me right in the Christmas spirit!!

if you are looking forward to hearing The 12 Days of Christmas, (that they perform SOOOO well)- be forewarned it is NOT in the show this year. Although the tenor and new arrangements were good, we were terribly disappointed that the show did not include one of the most memorable versions I have ever heard. I think before going again, I will check the itinerary. Also, we have sat on the floor for both shows and all agreed there was too much distraction and would happily go up to one of the balconies. Because of the distraction, the music and singing could not be fully appreciated. Now i know for next time!!! All in all, the show was enjoyable, but be sure to make reservations at any restaurant far in advance. It gets crazy crowded around the holidays. Sorellina was a nice restaurant, and just down the block from Symphony Hall, but Monica's in the North End is far better if you want Italian. Thank you, Merry Christmas--

Subdued Reflective Show

Orchestra was incredible and Tanglewood Chorus sand masked which I,o acted the acoustics of most songs. There was no sing along which disappointed many- guessing due to Covid ? They maybe could have announced no sing along. Program was rather subdued and missing much of the holiday joy of past performances. The audience was enthusiastic. Highlight was Maria Stephanos and Ed Harding doing ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas - they were engaging, fun and got the crowd excited. Show ended with Let There Be Peace On Earth which was lovely but not to end the show- felt as if we were in church. Overall great music but a mire reflective tix e- in some ways a little sadder.

Sadly Disappointed but Hopeful

Attended Sunday the 17th with family. Chose floor seats with plans for a festive time and food. Instead, we were crammed together with small tables with no spacing, very uncomfortable folding chairs, cold food, delivered in to go containers with plastic cutlery. Thrown at us on the table top. Expensive - overpriced. It was a sad, sad time. I tried to enjoy the music which for the most part was excellent. Odd graphics and awkward playfulness of chorus seemed forced. Other audience members seem to have lost any attempt at etiquette. From howling to yelling teens to drinking by too many patrons I was looking for it to be over and not another curtain call. Hopeful it will be better soon. But someone did not think through how the logistics would work and cramming more tables with cafeteria food would make us feel the holiday spirit for $150+ a ticket. It didn’t. Disorganized check in such that no one even checked our tickets. Listen to the album at home. Here’s to another year (maybe). . Happy holidays.

A very disappointing show. My family and I have gone for years to get into the Christmas spirit. Many of the traditional Christmas songs weren’t included.
