American Repertory Theatre's Gatsby finds its Jay!

Author KittyKitty, April 12th, 2024

Excellent news Old Sports, ART has announced the cast for the upcoming Gatsby musical from director Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown), with a score from Florence Welch (of + The Machine)

The Roaring 20s are in full swing as ART Gatsby announces its cast! Starring in the new production from Hadestown director Rachel Chavkin and Florence Welch will be Issac Powell (last seen in West Side Story on Broadway) as enigmatic millionaire Jay Gatsby, Ben Levi Ross (Dear Evan Hansen) as enchanted narrator Nick Carraway and Charlotte MacInnes as Daisy. They'll be joined by Cory Jeacoma as Tom, Eleri Ward as Jordan, Solea Pfeiffer as Myrtle, Matthew Amira as Wilson, and Adam Grupper as Wolfsheim.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past

First published in 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby has enjoyed nearly a century of popularity, with adaptations across the arts, including plays, movies, ballets and more. More recently, it passed out of copyright limitations and into the public domain, which means that productions don't need to pay the Fitzgerald Estate for the right to adapt the work. So as excitement builds for this ART premiere, it joins a few other major Great Gatsby productions with Broadway aspirations!

Catch Gatsby at the Loeb Drama Center from May 23!
